AGGIE EAGLE PROGRAM

TEXAS A&M CORPS OF CADETS
AGGIE EAGLE PROGRAM

The Aggie Eagle Program (AEP) is a recruiting program designed to increase the number of Eagle Scouts in the Corps of Cadets. In that sense, its focus is on a set of character traits and leadership skills enjoyed by those Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle. The AEP is open to high school juniors and seniors who meet certain academic standards. If a junior or senior is still actively involved in Scouting, we will assume that they are on track to reach their Eagle Award. Therefore, the AEP is open to Life Scouts, Sea Scouts, Venture Scouts and recipients of the GSUSA Gold Award.

The Program is held once each long semester. The fall event is built around a football game. In the spring, we take the Scouts to either a basketball or baseball game. The only material difference between the fall and spring program impacts attending seniors. Since the spring AEP is always after the deadline for applying to A&M for the following fall semester, seniors must have a completed application on file with Admissions. This requirement does not apply to juniors who attend.

During the AEP, the Scouts will be counseled on the admission process, receive valuable information about scholarships and financial aid, the Corps Leadership Excellence Program, the Honors Program and the Mentoring Program. More importantly, qualified attendees will be considered for Corps Scholarships. If a Corps Scholarship is awarded to an out of state Scout that Scout may qualify for in state tuition. This is a $30,000 savings over four years. Attendance by out of state Scouts has increased consistently over the life of the Program. Corps Scholarships do not require military service and may be used in conjunction with any other scholarship that the Scout may receive.

Many of the special units of the Corps are highlighted during the AEP. Thus, the Scouts will see the Band, the RVs, the Fish Drill team, the Rudder’s Rangers and other units as time permits. Scouts select the outfit that will sponsor them. Time is built into the AEP to permit the Scouts to interact with the Cadets.

The AEP is an official campus visit.
